What is a Siruclast? And, what does it have to do with Resilient Kids Canada?

Resilient Kids Canada was founded to function as a “Siruclast”.  This term was coined  by the highly respected paediatrician, Dr. Dipesh Navsaria. It means a “silo-breaker” from the Latin words “sirus (meaning “silo”) and clast (meaning “to break”). Our Founding President and CEO, Jan Kasperski,  focused on breaking down professional silos so that parents, caregivers and educators who influence the lives of young children could easily access the best insights, resources and tools created by most renouned organizations and experts from around the world.

Our website is an “Innovative Child-Focused Virtual Learning Zone”  where research from multiple sectors is translated into a common language that parents, caregivers and educators can use in their interactions with young children – a virtual site providing meaningful insights and play-based, fun-filled resources and tools, anchored in the development of the skills associated with resilience* – a virtual site where “screen time” is a opportunity for togetherness with kids in your lives.

Resilient Kids Canada is proud to be a“Sirucast” that celebrates the great work of our partners who populate our website.

Resilient Kids Canada is led by a skill-based Board and supported by the expert members of our Professional Advisory Council – our Honorary Ambassadors and Professional Advisors. We all have common values – a covenant to do our very best to help today’s parents, caregivers and educators create the environments and experiences for young kids that lead to resilience* – the skill sets that help secure health, well-being and successes in life – now and throughout the children’s future lives.

We  have natigated  the world to provide evidence-based insights and educational tools for the caring adults in the lives of young children that enable the development of critical resilience*. We do so through content reviewed and developed by experts in healthy brain development and play-based learning that is delivered online and on other available channels.  Our “Parenting” tools are designed for all adults who cultivate those early environments and experiences so that kids  can thrive –  and, so can the adults on the journey to resilience with them.

Who are the vitally important adults in a child’s life? – their parents, guardians, older siblings, grandparents, other family members, neighbours, music, art and dance teachers, sport coaches, librarians, school secretaries, school bus drivers, early childhood educators, kindergarten and primary grade teachers – and, the list goes on to include so many others that inspire kids to become the best that they can be now, and during adolescence and as caring and productive adults in the future.

Just image what it is like for a young child who is surrounded by a host of caring people who speak different languages, have different ideas on “Parenting” and use different methods in their efforts to bring out the best in that child. Is the child strengthened or confused or harmed? Imaging how confusing and difficult it is for parents and caregivers to help their young children navigate the external world of our school system and the external community under these circumstances.  And, Resilient Kids Canada has found the answer – breaking down silos to learn together how to create musical environments and experiences for young kids so that they thrive – and so do we, the caring adults in the lives of young children.

So, investigate each of the four zones on our website and send an email to info@resilientkidscan.org to receive the “Insight Series” on a regular basis – and, share it with the parents, caregivers and educators that you know who wish to join us in our silo-breaking adventures.

Resilience:

Social, emotional and cognitive skills, and optimistic temperament, and a sense of agency – a feeling of control over actions/behaviours and their impact on self and others.
